Lanthanum oxide is a chemical substance whose molecular formula is La2O3. White powder, slightly soluble in water, soluble in acid, easy to absorb carbon dioxide and water in the exposed air, mainly used to make precision optical glass, optical fiber.

 

Application

Mainly used in the manufacture of precision optical glass, high refractive optical fiber board, also used in the manufacture of ceramic capacitors, piezoelectric ceramics and strontium bromide powder. Extracted from phosphonium ore or obtained by burning barium carbonate or barium nitrate. It can also be obtained by heating decomposition of hydrazine oxalate. It is used as a catalyst for various reactions, such as oxidizing cadmium oxide to catalyze the oxidation reaction of carbon monoxide, and palladium doping to catalyze the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide to methane. Cerium oxide impregnated with lithium oxide or zirconium oxide (1%) can be used to make ferrite magnets. It is a very effective selective catalyst for the oxidative coupling of methane to ethylene and ethylene. It is used to improve the temperature dependence and dielectric properties of barium titanate (BaTiO3) and barium titanate (SrTiO3) ferroelectrics, as well as to manufacture fiber optics and optical glass.
